Edwins eco home

"simple eco design with a touch of modern and classic kiwi design"

This ridge top house located in the "Te Manawa" eco village in the Motueka valley has been cut into the hill and is a great example of site appropriate design.

The house is 2 story with parking/workspace downstairs and all living spaces upstairs with level access to the garden. This has has many eco features like passive solar, thermal mass with concrete slabs. A curved earth block wall inside the house is a real nice feature and contributes to a comfortable indoor climate. Other features include: Exposed timber truss, Timber floors, High ceilings, Hot water radiators, "Wormaerator" on site waste water system using flush toilets. Like all houses in the eco village the houses runs entirely on renewable energy.

"Stephan Meijer Architecture exceeded our expectations. Stephan listened carefully to our stated eco-design requirements, interpreted our sketches, heard and got excited about our desire to incorporate a curved internal mud-brick wall, and understood our wishful statements about ‘what we would really like if we had lots of money’… He then used this information - along with knowledge of our site’s challenges - to design our wonderful eco-home. His ability to understand and work with our aspirations, to use contemporary knowledge of sustainable building methods and materials, and with good awareness of build costs and practicality have resulted in a truly lovely home. It is a one-of-a-kind, maximizing a fabulous site. Thanks Stephan."
